Family Fall Activities Around Shelburne

October 14, 2020

Shelburne is the perfect small town to enjoy the crisp weather and vibrant colours of fall. It feels like a genuine country town with the many parks, ravines, and farms to explore – ideal for this time of year! It’s hard to know what is open during these times, so we’ve got you covered! Here are four fall activities that are fantastic for the whole family, allowing you to get outside and explore the nearby neighbourhoods all season long!

Sheldon Creek Dairy

Bring the family and see where the magic of milk happens! Sheldon Creek Dairy, located on Haanview Farms, raises purebred Holstein cows to make whole milk, yogurt, kefir, 45% cream, and much more. They offer an exciting and educational 45-minute tour of Haanview Farms, where you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of a real, working dairy farm. Families will learn about sustainability, aspects of the farm, and cow nutrition, all while following the full process of what the cows eat to the quality of milk that goes into each of Sheldon Creek Dairy’s products. Filled with fun facts and entertaining tour guides, the Haanview Farms tour is fun for all ages!

The tour also includes:

• Observing real cows and learning what they eat
• Watching the cows milk themselves in their state-of-the-art milking barn
• Taking a photo in the cornfield
• Enjoying the outdoor kid play area, riding the swings, and climbing the dome.
• A free kiddie cone from the dairy bar

Mansfield Outdoor Centre

Typically known for their ski hills and trails in the winter months and their summer camps in the summer, Mansfield Outdoor Centre still has family fun to offer in the fall. This year they have started an outdoor school to educate children in a safer environment outdoors. Along with this, the annual Halloween Festival will take place on Saturday, October 31st. They are one of the only locations near Shelburne to be holding a fall event! There will be four timeslots throughout the day where children will participate in a Cabin Trick or Treat, walk along the Haunted Trail, enjoy their Carnival Spooky Campfire, and join the Costume Parade. This is a ticketed event with limited space, so get your tickets online today!

Rawhide Adventures

Let your inner cowboy out at Rawhide Ranch, a working cattle and horse ranch with horse riding adventures and lessons. Located in the high hills of Mulmur township, Ontario, this ranch is located only 17 minutes from Ravines Edge.

They offer Trail Rides by the hour as well as specialty rides that cater to all types of skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Along with those, there are Ranch Riding Adventures like their Cattle Drives, where you get on a horse and herd cattle – how unique! If you’re a beginner, they have cattle herding clinics that will teach you how to sort and move a herd of cattle, including the responsibility of the various roles played by the crew. Regular horse riding lessons are available at this ranch as well. Get out and explore the fall scenery on a horse – what an exciting way to travel!

Osprey Wetlands Conservation Area

Want to see all the beautiful fall colours? Visit Osprey Wetlands Conservation Area, only 20 minutes away from Ravines Edge, to explore the undisturbed wetlands! During this time of year, their unique esker, surrounded by White Pine, Black Spruce, and mixed hardwoods, makes for a beautifully diverse array of wildlife habitats that are bursting with colour. From dusk until dawn, you can explore one of the highest elevations in Southern Ontario – essentially a ‘raised bog’ that rests in a depression of bedrock. This one-of-a-kind conservation area allows kids to feast their eyes on the gorgeous scenery while learning all about the land!
